What is the Health Insurance Exchange?

The Health Insurance Exchange is an online market place where people who have to buy their own insurance can do so. Individuals with preexisting conditions can now enroll for healthcare coverage without underwriting. Some individuals will qualify for subsidies while other may have dramatically increased premiums.

Health care reform in Florida is going to help make it affordable to many and while others may have price increases in October if you don’t qualify for State or Federal subsidies. If you don’t qualify for these subsidies, then Non Exchange plans may be the best approach to affordable health insurance.

Healthcare Reform and You

Beginning January 1st 2014, Healthcare Reform and the Affordable Care Act is requiring everyone to have health insurance. On October 1st 2013, the Health Insurance Exchange will open up for new enrollments.

Key highlights of Healthcare Reform and the Exchange

  • Insurance companies cannot deny coverage for preexisting conditions
  • Premiums will be based on age, household size and household income
  • Penalties (a tax as they would like to call it) will be issued for individuals
  • who do not purchase health insurance.
